Chris won a prize…

Prime Objective

Chris Keenan aka Prime Objective has been named as one of 4 Talents Creative Class, 2007. Chris VJs, takes pictures and makes films (oh and plays a mean mandolin!). Working with lomo, super 8 DV and more traditional photography, he’s been gradually gathering fans over the last few years. It’s great to see him being recognised in this national prize. His stunning website, (lovingly cooked up by the mighty TAK!) has oodles of great pics and unlike so many sites is updated regularly so is always worth a visit… good work Chris… bring on the future!

don’t miss the beat…

Autumnal

A big overhaul to the brilliant Beat 13 is online now. It’s focus has shifted, and currently concentrates (exclusively) on the unique creations of Lucy McLauchlan. It’s jam packed with beautiful works.

I suggest you put the kettle on, make a brew, get some tasty snacks and have a good old browse through the extensive paintings and scrapbook sections… see if you can spot my little wooden friends in there too. And… if you’re quick enough, you can buy a print in the prints section. Brilliant, brilliant work as ever.

the four letter word…

yep, WORK. Most of us spend so much time working… I got this months Creative Review and the back cover image struck a chord with me… I guess I’m fortunate that I actually like my work but it can still take up too much time! This simple list offers 10 commandments of How to work better. Thought it was worth sharing.

Possibly THE greatest distraction on the internet at the moment! After my previous sad sad post I was unsure what could come next. I’m still unsure, but this is a link to my new favourite website. Quite simply it’s an image bookmarking site and folk from all over the place post their favourite images from the sublime to the ridiculous. Following the sources can lead to some real visual treasure. I don’t know how I stumled upon it but seems I’m not the only one stumbling as it featured in ‘the guide‘ in saturdays Guardian. Some amazing stuff here, but beware it can devour time like you won’t believe. Inspiration a plenty. Go see for yourself.

Goodbye Reggie.

Reggie Pedro - Gomez Sleeve

I’ve just read the very sad news that Reggie Pedro has passed away. Reggie was a supremely talented artist/illustrator. I don’t know any details other than he’s no longer with us. Reggie was in my year at UWE Bristol and I met him early in my first year. His painting skills were truely awe inspiring and I remember looking round the degree show when we were finishing our first year and knowing that Reggie was by far, better than most, if not all the third year painters. My memories of him are a gentle and unnassuming guy, who’d always say hello.

Rest in peace Reggie. This world has lost a truly gifted artist.

dreams of flying

A really amazing set of pics by phtgrphr Jan von Holleben that take a fairly simple idea and run with it superbly.
Take a look.

I’m gazing at my shoes!

you made me realise

Smiling! They’re pretty cool, but really, it’s not my shoes. Today (not without considerable effort) I managed to get tickets for one of My Bloody Valentine’s comeback shows at Camden’s wonderful Roundhouse. I was lucky enough to see the mighty Sonic Youth doing Daydream Nation there in August. It’s a great venue and being a big semi circle you’re never that far from the stage.

ATP have done it again! Great…
